“Veterans Day is a special day in America and within the restaurant industry especially,” said Dr. Emily Williams Knight, President & CEO of the TRA. “As the daughter and wife of veterans, I have always been inspired by the dedication that our brave servicemen and servicewomen exhibit on a daily basis. It’s an honor for restaurants to return even a small amount of that dedication and service back to our veterans in the form of a free meal or warm hospitality. That commitment to service is what brings out the best in our country, and in our restaurant industry.”

The restaurant industry is a proud veteran employer. Veterans currently hold about 250,000 jobs in restaurants across the US. And whereas veterans make up about 8% of the US adult population, 14% of restaurant management positions are held by veterans.
