Texas Restaurant Association Unveils Agenda for 88th Legislative Session with Priorities that Benefit the Entire Foodservice Industry

After three difficult years, the restaurant industry is ready to unite around a bipartisan agenda that delivers immediate benefits and long-term security.

AUSTIN, TX (January 10, 2023) –
The Texas Restaurant Association (TRA) has released its agenda for the 88th legislative session, which begins at noon today. The regular session ends on May 29, 2023, creating a short but critical opportunity for restaurants to engage with their elected officials on a long list of topics that directly impact their businesses and their communities.

In creating its agenda, the TRA prioritized topics that will affect all foodservice businesses, as well astheir team members, customers, and suppliers. The TRA also focused on priorities that will provide immediate relief to restaurants—many of whom are still struggling from the COVID-19 pandemic and historic cost increases—as well as long-term growth and opportunity.

“With about 1,000 people moving to Texas every day, and restaurants representing 51% of the food dollar as well as the state’s second largest private-sector employer, it’s critical that Texas continue to prioritize restaurants’ success,” said Emily Williams Knight, Ed.D. President & CEO of the TRA. “I’m proud of the collaboration that led to this agenda because it’s the direct result of our visits with restaurants in each of our 23 chapters across the state last year.”

The full agenda is available at the TRA’s website here. All foodservice businesses are encouraged to connect with the TRA to ensure their voice is heard at the Texas Capitol.

Members of the media are invited to join TRA’s leadership team for a virtual press conference this afternoon to learn more about our 88th legislative session agenda.
