TRA News Now - Oppose the Wine Carry-In Bill

Apr 2

H.B. 3897 would allow a consumer to bring their own wine into a restaurant that has a mixed beverage permit. TRA has successfully opposed this concept in the past, most recently in 2011. At that time, it was the trigger issue that both engaged and enraged restaurateurs more than any issue in decades at the Capitol. In fact, large scale, upscale, independent, and restaurants of all sizes oppose this legislation.

Though the bill is permissive, allowing a restaurant owner to set his or her own corkage fee if desired, those fees do not begin to cover the potential loss of revenue from wine sales. It also negatively affects the servers and waitstaff, who depend upon gratuities of a consumer’s total bill.

Our latest two-minute TRA News Now explores the bill and goes into detail about what you can do to help us fight it.

WE NEED YOUR HELP to oppose this bill. Please contact members of the House Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committee (CLICK HERE) and let them know you are opposed to H.B. 3897. For member contact information, click on their individual photos.
